How would the application of Mises economic laws impact the U.S. national economy and/or culture?

Realizing no people are identical and they will not act identically society begins to treat each person as an individual in government, business, and education.

Since individuals don't act identically, those in government no longer attempt to push one size fits all laws. Now needed laws are made at the lowest level possible so the representatives making the laws are closest to the people as possible and the individual culture of the area is taken into consideration. With government functioning at a more local level, the representatives are more accessible to those they are representing. There are very few laws that try to enforce a certain behavior and the laws are only used to protect rights and property. If someone wants to be strange or different than the local society then that is fine in the eyes of the law. There is much more tolerance for different lifestyles as society realizes everyone is different. This does not mean that every behavior or lifestyle is accepted, society still frowns on what they consider wrong but most people put more thought into it before judging another. Since people make an attempt to be more understanding they are usually more willing to help each other than to just make quick judgments about a person in need.

The individual states have stepped up and retaken their responsibility to be a sovereign state and govern themselves. There are now fifty different states doing things fifty different ways. If they choose, people are able to usually find a state that fits in with their individual beliefs. Once the central government was out of the way, the states went many directions with their various policies such as education, employment laws, illegal substances, and all the other issues the federal government no longer controls. States sometimes adopt what other states have done as they see it be successful, other times they keep trying their own thing.

Society also understand that laws only work if they are supported by public opinion. In addition to having government shifted toward the local level there is also much more interaction between government officials and citizens. Citizens recognize their opinion needs to be heard and they need to have representatives that truly represent their opinion. Local meetings such as city council and caucus are well attended along with meet the candidate nights. Representatives truly listen to their constituents, acting like servants rather than masters. Laws that are passed that end up being unpopular are usually repealed in a fairly quickly manner. With the people being more involved and better educated on the true role of government, the representatives are held responsible. It is not uncommon for an elected official to be voted out of office. The cost of enforcing laws has greatly decreased since less law enforcement and jails are needed because most people follow the laws since the people support the laws. The people have realized they are more safe with less laws since those in law enforcement are focusing on real crimes that encroach on safety instead of wasting their time on enforcing unneeded laws. There are also very few lobbies and special interest groups because the government officials care more about what their constituents think. Representatives want to make sure they are in line with those that they are suppose to be representing.

Businesses where possible have gone to more flexible schedules wherever possible (where certain coverage is not needed at certain times) allowing employees to work hours that work best for their individual needs. Compensation is also much more flexible and based on individual desire and what motivates the employee the most. This may be more money, more vacation days, more education benefits, fitness leave, service leave, better retirement benefits, better medical coverage or whatever the employer and employee are able to work out as a fair deal. Supervisors know each employee and understand their various personalities working with each employee, not treating them all as robots.

Education is very diverse with many choices for an individual. There are many types of schools that focus on many different learning models. Some schools may focus on using lecturing and testing, others may be project based, others are discussion based and yet others are a combination or use another method. Teachers and mentors get to know their students as individuals and do their best to work with each student. There are still some conveyor belt systems but most schools have moved to a mentor system where the mentor(s) work with the students for years giving them time to really get to know the student and help them progress.

There are no government run k-12 schools, they are now all church or private schools or home schools. Some state and local governments provide vouchers to incentivize education. In one state there is no funding while in another you can qualify for a voucher up to a certain grade level depending on your income. There are also many private charities and scholarships to help with educational costs. With all the competition, the price of education has been greatly reduced and the quality has improved. Rather than complacently depending on a system of accreditation, parents and students research schools personally and make decisions based on their findings. The conduct, or performance, of the student determines the education level the student receives. If the student is dedicated and able to perform well then there are more chances for scholarships and opportunities. Even a student from a low income family, who is able to perform, has the opportunity to succeed. Since parents now understand that conduct determines a person's place in society, they are much more involved in the education of their child wanting to teach the child good conduct and to give the child a real chance at success.

Career training is no longer the focus of most schools. Career training is left to apprenticeships where the apprentice gets hand on training and are taught by a mentor who gets a chance to work with the apprentice on a personal level. Schools focus more on basic skills and how to understand life. Many schools do emphasis a certain subject over others, such as an arts academy or a science academy, but the main focus is not to teach a specific career but use subjects the student is interested in to teach the skills needed to succeed in life.

It is understood that a person's place in society is based on their conduct. With this understanding those that wish to improve themselves work hard to get where they want to be. People who want to help others who are in the lower places in society now try and help the needy person by encouraging and teaching good conduct and engaging them as individuals or forming groups and associations, not just expecting the government to solve the problem. There is no longer a push to get government to attempt to change a person's place in society since this has been recognized as not being helpful, in fact it is usually hurtful. There are many organizations and individuals that work with less fortunate people to help teach needed skills and encourage the needy to make the changes to improve their lives. Most people in society realize bad things, such as sickness and death, happen and they are quick to help out those that are in a bad situation due to no fault of their own. This help last long enough to get the person or family back on their feet.

There is also no attempt to tear down the rich because people no longer think it is unfair that there are rich people. The successful are recognized as being where they are because of their conduct and are looked up to as good examples and inspirations. It is also recognized that someone who takes actions to satisfy himself often tends to increase satisfaction in others. As this is recognized it creates a culture of abundance. Everyone is happy to help each other succeed since it is recognized if someone else succeeds at their goals then it is an improvement to society and leads to an increase for all. However, those with more wealth and access to more opportunities are severely penalized by law if they use their advantage in ways that hurt others or damage the culture.  Business is conducted and protected within a pure free enterprise philosophy.

 In the workplace co-workers give encouragement to their fellow workers as they all work together to improve the business together. Providing satisfaction to the customer or co-worker is often more important than making the sell or getting the promotion because by increasing satisfaction in the customer or co-worker helps to increase satisfaction in everyone. If someone is passed up for a promotion, instead of being angry they look at themselves and see what they need to do to be ready the next time the chance comes around. This also applies to businesses, they look at their own business along as those businesses doing better than them to see how to improve to get the customers business the next time. The focus is on improvement instead of tearing down.

It is also known that to stop actions that decrease satisfaction those actions need to be made painful. Many helps that were in place in the past to cover the loss of satisfaction have been removed. There is no longer any minimum wage in most states. If an individual is not happy with their income then they feel pain with their low wage and it gives them motivation to change their situation through hard work and education. Where unemployment insurance exists, it only is available for a very short time to help the individual recover from their loss and get back out in the field. For those that violate the rights of others the preferred punishment is enough restitution to inflict pain on the violator. If restitution is not possible then there is usually some harsh punishment to discourage that behavior in the future and make violating the rights of others not worth the risk. Most people find it less painful to do honest work than to attempt to take from others.

Businesses that do not follow proper principles that lead to satisfaction are also allowed to fail since there are no longer subsidies or bailouts. If a business or organization makes poor decisions then they are alone responsible for the results of those decisions. Many businesses that were once successful and were icons of the nation have failed due to their inability to adapt to changes in the market and their poor business practices or simply because another company found a better way of doing business and the old company was unable to compete. There is no longer such thing as "to big to fail" as everything can fail.

Humans also want to be different, and unequal, and to gain more than others if they do more. It is understood in society that those that have more usually do more. Not everyone is willing to put in long hours every week so they are fine being where they are at in life. Since it is understood that those that have more usually work more there is not an attempt to use government to take from those that have more and give to those that have less. If someone really wants more then they go out and work hard to attempt to get what they want. Those that have more are much more happy to help out those that don't have as much since their wealth is not being plundered by the state and those that have less since it is now their choice to help out instead of being forced. Those that receive help are grateful instead of feeling entitled to what others have.

There is much more personal responsibility now that society recognizes that all institutions are made up of individuals. For any bad actions taken, it is no longer possible to hide behind an institution. No longer are "they" blamed for many of the issues. If a government agency or business commits a bad action then the person or people responsible for the action are held responsible. If a bank commits fraud then the individuals that actually took the action to commit the fraud are held responsible since a bank is an institution and can't take action.

On the flip side this also works for good actions. If an institution is doing good things then those individuals in the institution doing the good deeds are recognized and rewarded. Individual people are less likely to commit bad actions, while more likely to seek out good actions since they know they will be recognized for their actions and will not be lost in the crowd.

Individuals also realize that all their actions affect others. No longer do people justify their actions by saying "This does not affect anyone but myself." Now that it is realized all actions affect others most people try to think before they act and think about how it may affect others. Often the affect is not seen or so minor it does not change the behavior. As people get better thinking about the results of their actions and recognizing how it does affect others they get better at making smart decisions. Society become less selfish as people learn to look outward at others. With this realization all relationships are strengthened, especially marriages, as people truly understand what their actions really do.

With the adoption of the Mises economic laws there is a healthy boom to the economy as it shifts back to entrepreneurs. As society recognizes the importance of entrepreneurs many laws and regulations which were in place to protect the established businesses are removed from the books. Small businesses begin to spring up by the thousands as it is much easier to start a new business not having to worry about all the burdensome regulations. The emphasis switches to providing a good product or service and not worrying about unnecessary paperwork and rules. Unemployment reaches very low levels, with all the new businesses and opportunity there is plenty of work for anyone that wants it.

Individuals seek cooperation naturally because they are different, therefore division of labor, specialization and trade are natural and allow men to seek greater satisfaction. Since this is the case and there is less regulation, people begin to trade more among themselves. There are no longer millions of laws attempting to regulate and protect everyone so neighbors feel free to exchange more goods and services. It is not unusual to trade eggs for a haircut or other homemade goods and services. People don't always think in terms of money but in terms of value. The goal is not always to get money but to find a way to get the item or service that the person needs or wants. With the rise of entrepreneurs this is also possible since the businesses are usually small and the owner is involved day to day with the employees and customers so decisions on what to accept for payment is able to be made easily and quickly. Since government has been greatly reduced in size, they are not longer desperate for taxes so bartering is not discouraged. People seeing they are able to keep the fruits of their labor and it is easier to exchange they are more motivated to improve their skills or learn new skills beyond what is needed for their career.

All subsidies are also done away with.  Government gets out of driving the direction of business and leaves it to consumers and entrepreneurs. With government out of the way entrepreneurs are free to see what consumers really want and at what prices they are willing to pay. With consumers driving demand directly there are very few malinvestments in creating unwanted products. With the removal of all subsidies, the tax burden is lightened providing consumers more of their own money to use on the products and services they wish to use.

As government gets out of trying to drive the market through subsidies, prices of products and services quickly reach their real level. They are not lowered through subsidies or increased through regulation. Without subsidies, consumers slowly begin to get better and cheaper products and services. Companies that relied on subsidies either go out of business or adapt to a better way of doing business. Many new business rise up now that there is fair competition and the best companies provide better products and services at lower prices. The consumers get more for their money and the entire nation becomes richer as products and services improve and consumers have more money to spend on what they would like.

It is understood that ideas are the greatest factor of influence in getting humans to act. With this, there is a much larger effort to use education instead of positive law to influence behavior. If there is some task a group wants to accomplish then the group will do what they can to share their ideas. This could be advertising, a protest, door-to-door chats with neighbors, booths at events, movies, books or any other way to reach out and share the idea. The idea may take a generation to really catch on but if it does catch on by free will, instead of by positive law, then it will be much more rooted in to society and will observed with the use of force from the state.

Once the old institutions of the welfare state failed it was very painful for society. Seeing the failed policies society decided to attempt to adopt sound economic laws and give them a try. It was very rough in the beginning as many people wanted to keep with the old failed ways saying it was just a temporary depression. It was with much pain, education and after some time experience that finally showed that this may be a better way to live. Though most people still resisted individual responsibility they realized it was less painful in the long run than having others take care of those responsibilities. Those that resisted also found society becoming much more successful and that they had more of the items they needed or wanted.

With these proper principles often taught at home and school they are now known in all aspects of life. It is realized that economy is not just the exchange of money but that it is all relationships in life. Economy is no longer a scary subject left to the experts and is now a way of life.
