I find it interesting comparing history to today.
In 1916 Pancho Villa was running a gang in Mexico that rivaled the authority of the Mexican government. This gang launched attacks against Americans on both sides of the border.
Having enough of this President Wilson activated 15,000 militia troops to protect the border and sent General Pershing with thousands of troops into Mexico to put a stop to Pancho Villa. After Pershing clashed with the Mexican army, President Wilson sent another 75,000 National Guardsmen to help protect the border. This show of force was able to protect our border and end the threat.
Today as drug cartels threaten our peace and the border our enforcement personnel simply fall back giving territory to the gangs. The cartels claim that the border has moved northward to interstate 8 and Federal officials have warned the public to avoid the Sonoran Desert National Monument which is only 35 miles southwest of Phoenix.
It is very sad that our officials view political correctness as more important than defending our own borders. This issue goes way beyond the immigration issue when we have cartels controlling our border. How long can a nation exist when it doesn't have the will to defend itself?
While I have sympathy for the illegal mexicans who are merely trying to seek refuge and make a better life for themselves in our country, I am irate at our federal government for neglecting one of their few duties as set forth by the Constitution. We wouldnt be in this situation if people had been doing their actual jobs.
